Basic Rights Oregon: 30 Years of Enhancing Lives of LGBTQ+ Oregonians
Basic Rights Oregon is turning 30 this year, and we have so much to celebrate! Our organization, lovingly referred to as "BRO" to those who know us, was formed in 1996 out of community responses to anti-gay ballot measures that had been plaguing our state for more than two decades.
Over the past 30 years, we have continuously fulfilled our mission to build power for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer Oregonians, securing countless historic victories that make our state one of the safest, most inclusive places in the country for LGBTQ+ people to live out, proud and authentically as their true selves.
In our 30-year history, we have helped secure nondiscrimination laws, created safer schools, mandated coverage for trans health care, banned conversion therapy for queer youth, and won the freedom to marry. We focus on serving the most vulnerable populations in Oregon, and our work impacts the more than 250,000 LGBTQ2SIA+ people who call this wonderful state our home.
To properly celebrate these many historic wins, BRO is throwing a Big Queer Birthday Bash in recognition of thirty years of centering queer and trans Oregonians on our advocacy and policy work.
